What are computer viruses and how do I avoid them?
A computer virus is a piece of code that is capable of copying itself and corrupting a computer system or destroying data. Protecting your personal information and equipment from viruses and other threats isn’t difficult, but you have to be diligent.

Anti-virus software
Installing an anti-virus program can help defend your computer against viruses. New viruses can appear daily, so it’s important that you install the updates when your anti-virus software prompts you.

Keep your device updated
Install updates for your computer, smartphone or tablet when prompted.

Watch out for suspicious emails
Many viruses are attached to email messages. If something looks suspicious, avoid opening it or downloading the attachment. If you’re unsure, the best thing to do is to delete the message.
